Data Migration

Data Migration

We help businesses move their data to a new BI environment as part of our BI services. We design data migration that comprises the following tasks in addition to a fundamental ETL process:

  • Specifying team roles, procedures, and timetables
  • Gathering and preparing sources of data
  • Data analysis and source data cleaning
  • Schema design and staging for the target system
  • Field mapping from source to target
  • Improving data
  • Transferring data to operational systems

There are several steps involved in a data migration:

Planning: Before migrating any data, it is important to plan the migration carefully. This includes identifying the data that needs to be migrated, the source and target systems, the migration schedule, and any potential risks or challenges.

Data extraction: This step involves extracting the data from the source system and making it ready for migration. This may involve cleaning, transforming, and validating the data, depending on the specific requirements of the migration.

Data loading: This step involves loading the data into the target system. This may involve writing custom scripts or using third-party tools to handle the data transfer.

Data testing and validation: Once the data has been loaded into the target system, it is important to test and validate the data to ensure that it has been transferred correctly and that the data is accurate and complete.

Data cutover: This step is where the source system is switched off and the target system is made live. This step is critical and needs careful planning and execution.

Post-migration activities: After the data has been migrated, there may be a need for additional activities, such as data archiving, data quality control, or indexing.
